The climate changes are now impacting the DHI business in a number of ways.
At the very practical level a severe rain storm hit the DHI Headquaters on Saturday 14 August. 126 mm rain over 6 hours corresponding to a 900 year rain event made it necessary to install temporary pumps to keep the water away from the basement.
The heavy rain event was intercepted by the DHI Weather Radar as can be seen on the animation at the bottom of the page. DHI receives an increasing interest from customers for using the DHI Weather Radar in their warning and contingency plans designed to meet the consequences of the climate changes. Very recently DHI has installed the first DHI Weather Radar in El Salvador where the owner Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales is working on an efficient warning system against floods and landslides.
The climate changes are also impacting the development of the MIKE by DHI software and the DHI Solution Software. At the upcoming international MIKE by DHI conference 2010 in September the new Climate Change "button" in the MIKE by DHI products will be announced being part of the 2011 release. It will allow the MIKE users to quickly change the conditions of an existing model – based on results from recognized Global Circulation Models – so that the new conditions correspond to a user selected climate scenario and a given year in the future. The new feature allows MIKE users to quickly and consistently screen a wide range of scenarios and use the results in assessment studies as well as in studies aiming at climate proofing of infrastructure.
Also at the MIKE by DHI conference 2010 the DHI Solution Software will announce the new web-based Climate Change Decision Support system developed for decision makers and stakeholders in the water sector. The challenge for decision-makers and stakeholders is to understand the climate change changes, to determine where and how regions and sectors are vulnerable and to implement appropriate adaptation measures. This is exactly what the new web-based Climate Change Decision Support system is developed for.

The new software products and features are expected to further boost the rapidly expanding portfolio of climate change adaptation related projects carried out for our clients by DHI world-wide. Check out our climate change web site at here
